The Health & Safety Executive describes competency as the combination of training, skills, experience and knowledge that a person has and their ability to apply them to perform a task safely. Other factors, such as attitude and physical ability, can also affect competence. Based on this definition the passing of this Traffic Marshal test acts only as confirmation that you have demonstrated your understanding of the course material and does not mean you are competent to operate as a Traffic Marshal. Traffic Marshalling should only be undertaken where you have been provided with site specific training including but not limited to: Mentored support, an understanding of the Traffic Management Plan and / or Risk Assessments related to Traffic Marshalling. This should also be supplemented with regular training by the main sites’ responsible person(s). This course does not cover or entitle you to work on public highways.
