Testing is taken on demand and learners agree that they shall complete this without assistance from any person, paper based or electronic means either visual or audible. The Health & Safety Executive describes competency as the combination of training, skills, experience and knowledge that a person has and their ability to apply them to perform a task safely. Other factors, such as attitude and physical ability, can also affect someone's competence. Based on this definition the passing of the fire marshal test through Training 1st Ltd acts only as confirmation that learner has demonstrated their understanding of the course material and not their competency to operate as a fire marshal and this only applies where the learner themselves has sat and passed the test. Learners undertaking the fire marshal course through Training 1st agree that Fire Marshalling should only be undertaken following training provided by the responsible person (see below) for a premises on all aspects of the relevant premises' fire safety risk assessment, alarms, fire fighting equipment and evacuation procedures/ plans.
The person(s) responsible for fire safety in a business or other non-domestic premises, are as follows:
- an employer
- the owner
- the landlord
- an occupier
- anyone else with control of the premises, for example a facilities manager, building manager, managing agent or risk assessor
Responsible persons must carry out and regularly review the fire risk assessment the premises. This will identify what is needed to prevent fire and keep people safe. Fire Marshals are not responsible persons. HMO, rental & private residences must comply with fire safety requirements and this fire marshal course does not meet these requirements or apply to these settings.
