Welcome to your online course and thank you for choosing to learn with Health & Safety Training 1st. Once you have completed it you can take the test on demand and will receive instant results, certification, as well as a free resit if required.
Course Objectives
On completion of this course learners should be able to:
- Understand what a Portable Appliance is / what Portable Appliance Testing is
- Understand the legal requirements and responsibilities related to Portable Appliances in the workplace
- Understand the concept of Risk Assessment in relation to electrical appliances
- Understand the general and more specific hazards related to the use of electrical equipment, and Portable Appliances, and how these can be controlled
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of electrical concepts like Voltage, Resistance, Current, Power etc.
- Understand the difference between appliance classes (Class I & II etc.)
- Recognise the stages involved in Portable Appliance Testing in a low risk environment
- Understand what is required for an appliance to pass each stage in a Portable Appliance Test
Important
(i) This course does not “qualify” you to complete PAT testing, either visually or using a PAT testing device, but does provide a knowledge base for the process, and an explanation as to what is required for an appliance to pass PAT.
(ii) All PAT testing equipment is different, and the use of devices can vary, specific training may be required in order to use specific testing devices. If you do not know how to use the specific device provided, you are not competent to complete the testing.
(iii) All portable appliances are different, make sure you read the manufacturer’s user manual / additional information before attempting PAT testing.
(iv) This course is designed to provide knowledge about the process of PAT testing, and Health and Safety Training 1st accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to persons or equipment from its application or interpretation.
