Course Objectives
On completion of this course learners should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of:

- The legislation and HSE guidance related to Fall Protection PPE
- The components of Harness & Lanyard systems in detail
- How to complete Pre-Use Checks
- How to put on and adjust Safety Harnesses

(i) The use of Safety Harnesses & Lanyards should only be undertaken by those who are competent to do so. This course aims to provide the knowledge required but a person’s competency should also depend on their individual practical experience.
(ii) The safety requirements in use of Safety Harnesses & Lanyards will depend on their specific use and relevant risk assessments.
(iii) All pieces of PPE are different & will come with different requirements, uses and potential damage / defects. An individual’s competency to use Safety Harnesses & Lanyards will depend on individual assessment, which should be completed prior to assigning any responsibilities.
(iv) An individual’s competency to use Safety Harnesses & Lanyards will depend on individual competency, which should also consider the nature of the site / building, the equipment & their specific assigned responsibilities in comparison to previous experience.
